We run a number of events throughout the year and publicise these on the Village WhatApp group and via newletters and leaflets. If you have any ideas for events that you would like us to consider, please Contact Us
These events are free and open to all villagers and a wide cross sections of ages from young children to those with many more years under their belt.
Any age or mobility limitations will be advised when we publish specific details of events.
Dumbly Day (see here for records of the events)
Wildlife / Nature Walks
9.30 am - 1.00 pm on Sunday 24th May.
The inaugural Dumbly Day on Sunday 24 May 2026 will focus is on helping St Peters Church with a few hours of gardening, clearing and cleaning.
Our aim is to create an annual event for residents of the village, ‘Dumblies’, to participate in a Spring Clean for Dumbleton and to grow this into an annual event where villagers can come together to keep our village looking and feeling good with a social activity built in.
Sat 8 August 2026 09:30-11:30.:
A walk up in the area discovering woodland plants, butterflies, birds and more in the company of Anne Goodenough, Professor of Applied Ecology.
Meet at Village Hall.
The walk will be 2-3 miles, including uphill, but leisurely pace. Max 18 people
Archaeological Open Day – Gold Hay Field Sunday 10th May
Bat Walks
Over 60 villagers and near village neighbours walked the site.
Our thanks to Centaur Homes (Builder) for funding this event and to TVAS & ADAS, especially Helen, Emily, Megan, Steve, Jack and Mike (onsite archaeologists) who did an excellent job of explaining the process and the “finds”.
If you missed out on the day, the display will be available at the Village Club, during normal opening hours for a couple of weeks. (approx. end May)

Following the last 3 years highly successful events, Anne Goodenough, Professor of Applied Ecology will host another Bat walk in 2026. We will use audio and, if available, night vision equipment, so we can hear and hopefully see the bats. With at least 11 bat species in the area, we always has a great evening!
Meet outside Village Hall.
Up to 2hr and 2 miles, torches and good (ideally waterproof) footwear essential Max 18 people.
Mini Beast Safari (not planned in 2026)
Anne Goodenough uses a moth trap, so you can see moths up close, and oversees pond dipping for aquatic invertebrates.
This type of event is ideal for anyone who has limited mobility.

The Society issues Newsletter that are circlated to the village by posting these leaflets and displaying them in around the village including in the village club, cricket club and village hall.
