Derek Bernard Lyes 1935 - 2026
Derek was a familiar face around the village having been born in the village in XXX and lived here all his life. He died peacefully on 7th May 2026 on the a date of his late wife "Nettie"s birthday. Derek had three children, Dominic, Paul, Rachel (Minnis). He was one of six children and is survived by his brother Brian and sister Pauline.
He was much loved and respected throughout the village as evidenced by the many comments on the village WhatApp group. A selection of these are below.
Derek was a self taught artist painting for the joy of it and taking on commissions (unpaid - he refused any financial contributn). A selection of his painting are also shown below.
In later years he had very poor hearing but he would always join in all of the village events and was very often seen walking through the village on a daily jaunt stopping to talk to passers by, and always enjoyed watching the local cricket team. He grew his own vegetables and loved to exhange his produce for chutneys made from the fruit of his labours.
